De Hoop op d’Swarte Walvis is one of the best-known and most attractive restaurants in the Netherlands. What’s more, it’s located in a beautiful, historic setting! The restaurant is situated directly on the River Zaan and has a jetty for boating guests and a large terrace. The front of the building, on the main route through Zaanse Schans, also features a charming terrace. We serve our à la carte menu in a warm and luxurious atmosphere from Tuesday through to Saturday evenings. At lunchtimes and on Sundays, we offer a brasserie menu. We also have a superbly authentic bar: ‘Het Vleethuis’. Appropriately, we serve original, locally-brewed Breugem beer. The restaurant also has a range of rooms for various groups. The premises consist of three historic buildings that come together to form a whole: an orphanage from 1717 in Westzaan, a merchant’s house and a warehouse.
